Takeover Weighs on Oracle Profit

Oracle has reported a 15 percent drop in quarterly profits, due largely to the costs of the PeopleSoft takeover.

Sales were up 18 percent, which included those from PeopleSoft.

Oracle Sings an Old Lament

In many ways, it’s the same old story. Oracle’s database business turned in a solid performance, while the application business did not. Since the PeopleSoft deal closed in this quarter, analysis of its true effects will be clearer in May, but Oracle CEO Larry Ellison did admit that PeopleSoft’s contribution was on the light side.
