AUSOUG 2007 in Melbourne – My Preliminary Schedule

While I have another blog post in drafts, I should quickly update on the sessions I’m going to visit in the next two days of AUSOUG 2007 in Melbourne. I arrived to Melbourne today and I took Babette for a walk. This tour deserve a separate entry so I postpone it until I have more time to empty my camera and sort it out so back to the schedule…

How an Oracle DBA Works in Sydney

I’m going to present couple sessions at the Australian Oracle User Group Conference in Melbourne next week. It’s the first time I’m presenting Down Under and I’m looking forward to it, although I’m still not sure if I should start from the last slide and proceed backward. It seems like I will never finish this blog post so I will be brief now and simply hint you what you can find in the next one. Nuno Souto, aka Noons, was very kind to invite me to his place for a dinner, and I can tell you it was fantastic evening. But this is a topic for the next photo-blog. Stay tuned!

Tracking your Oracle client versions in 11g

I have recently stumbled upon V$SESSION_CONNECT_INFO view and discovered that it provides interesting information about client-side software and settings. Using this view in Oracle 11g you can simplify collecting some statistics about database clients. Here is what can be extracted.

Oracle Outside In Technology 8.2.0

I found some interesting software pieces available for download from Oracle TechNet. “Oracle Outside In Technology” represents a set of SDK’s for various content management operations. Basically, those are excellent building blocks for content management applications and tasks. Here are couple descriptions to heat your interest up.

The First Miracle Open World: Gala Diner

First on the schedule of the second evening (28th of September) was the Gala Diner. Mr. Nogood opened it and marked Oracle ACEs, OCP/Ms and Oak Table Network members with special distinction — a blue silk sash. Sadly, I can’t find mine in my travel bag; I think perhaps the Water-Park has it now.

The First Miracle Open World: Day 2

In this post I’m going to concentrate on the second and last day of MOW. However, a few other events require dedicated coverage that I will need to do later. The start of the second day was conveniently moved to 9:30 instead of original 9:00. I feel that the organizers really did care very much about the attendees. The Water-Park party was total success and some enthusiasts as usual ended up at the Party House. I plan to cover the Water-Park separately at some point. Now let’s turn to the “useless stuff”.

The 1st Day at The 1st Miracle Open World

The Miracle Open World conference was opened yesterday by Mogens Norgaard. He started by disclosing the difference between other Oracle conferences. While normally you would expect 80% of the conference to presentations (or “useless stuff” to quote him) and 20% for social networking. The Miracle event leaves the rate of “useless stuff” at 20% and raises the social networking component to 80%, and last night I learned the secret how to do that. As usual, keep an eye on your RSS reader — more details should come tomorrow!
