I saw an Interesting question on preventing human error posted on the DBA Managers Forum discussions today. I typed my thoughts and as I was finishing, I thought that it makes sense to post it on the blog too, so here we go…
Easy reading for you today folks and literally couple clicks to vote. Cheers!
Welcome to my first blog post in this series on database consolidation tips. Let’s get down to business…
I’ve just published Oracle Database 11g Express Edition Amazon EC2 image (AMI) but most of you have never used Amazon EC2… Not until now! This is a guide to walk you thorough the process of getting your very first EC2 instance up and running. Buckle up — it’s going to be awesome!
That’s right folks! Playing with latest beta of free Oracle Database 11g Express Edition couldn’t be any easier than that. If you are using Amazon EC2, you can have a fully working image with 64 bit Oracle Linux and Oracle 11g XE database running in a matter of few clicks and a minute to get the instance to boot.
I’m very excited to announce this somewhat old news, we have a brand new Oracle ACE at Pythian, Yury Velikanov, A fantastic addition to Pythian’s team of ACEs and ACE Directors.
One MySQL Plug-in customer reported an issue with reports — all charts were displaying an Oracle error and didn’t display any data as if it couldn’t connect to the EM repository. If you face this issue, follow My Oracle Support Note 374382.1 “Grid Control Repository: How to Change the Password of the MGMT_VIEW User”.
Sometimes I get questions as to whether Pythian is one of the competitors battling with Oracle for MySQL support. The answer lies in the distinction of product support and operational support.
Last week brought great news to Pythian – one of our DBAs in Pakistan, Fahd Mirza, has become an Oracle ACE. Fahd joined Pythian in September 2010 as the very first Pythian employee in Pakistan and thanks to his skills and ambitions ended up on the team supporting Exadata environments. I should also mention that another Oracle ACE DBA joined us recently – Jared Still. Jared is a well respected member of Oracle community, member of the OakTable Network and a veteran of the Oracle-L mailing list
I will be speaking at the Twin Cities Oracle Users Group 2011 Winter Meeting. It’s the first time I’m speaking for this user group so I’m excited to meet the new audience. I will present one hour version of my Grid Infrastructure Internals session. Of course, no demos during presentation as it’s just enough to cover the theory slides but I’ll leave the demo as a homework as usual. :)
