In this post, we’ll take a look at three important settings that affect the performance of the concurrent managers: number of processes, “sleep seconds”, and “cache size”. This article might be a bit on the theoretical side, but it should provide a good understanding of how these settings actually affect the behavior and performance of concurrent managers.

It has been a while since I have presented in a room so close to being full. Pythian’s Oracle Apps DBA team recently upgraded a client’s E-Business Suite system to version 12.1.3, bringing them into compliance with Oracle’s baseline support requirements for Release 12.1 nearly one year ahead of deadline. We’d like to tell you a bit about this project — not to toot our own horn (though that’s nice too, we are kinda proud), but because it provides an ideal illustration of the power of the Pythian service delivery model, particularly as it applies to large enterprise-class projects.
I attended a great presentation at UKOUG 2011, “Oracle E-business Suite’s use of edition-based redefinition for online patching,” delivered by Bryn Llewellyn from Oracle. The presentation provided thorough insight on how EBR works and how E-Business Suite will be able to use it for online patching. It answered many questions, but raised a few more questions and concerns. I’ll try to summarize in this post the main concerns I’ve been thinking about after attending this presentation.
