I attended a great presentation at UKOUG 2011, “Oracle E-business Suite’s use of edition-based redefinition for online patching,” delivered by Bryn Llewellyn from Oracle. The presentation provided thorough insight on how EBR works and how E-Business Suite will be able to use it for online patching. It answered many questions, but raised a few more questions and concerns. I’ll try to summarize in this post the main concerns I’ve been thinking about after attending this presentation.
For the final day of UKOUG there are quite a few Pythian presentations. Unfortunately a lot of them happen at the same time, so it won’t be possible to attend them all live.
Another December has started and you know what it means right? It’s the Christmas time? NO! It’s time for UKOUG Technology and e-Business Suite 2011 conference! There are not many things that can make a passionate Apps DBA more excited than that. UKOUG Tech & eBS conferences are the only ones in Europe that have such a rich content for Application DBAs and this year it will not be different.
The topic of this post is really a question, What does all the new stuff coming down the line mean for those customers in the next 12-18 months? Oddly enough, the answer to that question is: Not very much. At least, not yet.
Oracle hosted a webcast of Sysadmin-oriented Preview of EBS 12.2. It was an enlighting webcast, which gave a very good idea about things coming up in Release 12.2. Today I want to discuss about a prominent feature of the upcoming Oracle E-Business suite Release 12.2, Online patching feature. The screengrab in thiis post of a slide from presentation gives a nice overview of the feature.
Oracle Fusion Applications 11G is now available! You can get the installation from the Oracle E-Delivery site in no time. This is the moment many of us have been waiting for, if not for many years then for many months for sure. Keeping in mind the amount of effort Oracle have invested in the product and the fact that the product is going to be a flagship ERP system on the market for at least next 10 years the most important thing is to get an access to the documentation. For me to understand the concepts and fundamental principals of the product is much more important than getting it installed ASAP. Let’s get into it.
I’m very excited to announce this somewhat old news, we have a brand new Oracle ACE at Pythian, Yury Velikanov, A fantastic addition to Pythian’s team of ACEs and ACE Directors.
This is a short one. Yesterday I was asked to marry an EBS autoconfig feature to an Oracle 11G Cluster infrastructure. In particular the client’s intention was to use srvctl to manage Instances and at the same time keeping DB side Network related configuration managed by autoconfig. There are several possible solutions. However, I used the following…

I just recently faced an issue on how to automate the Workflow Mailer override address for development and testing environments during the EBS cloning process. The problem is that the only official way to set the override address in the latest ATG releases is to go through the OAM portal and change the override email via the GUI interface. I came to this solution.
