The first MySQL/MariaDB/NoSQL Latin America event is on its way and Pythian will have a MySQL guy there. Yes, Francisco Bordenave is going to be one of the speakers. I am presenting a conference about Replication in MySQL, how to’s and what’s new in newer versions. This is a very important event and many of our friends will be there.
The thirsty attendees at this latest IOUG/OAUG/Quest show are keen. The registration lines were long, but no significant Oracle wait events. The show officially kicks off today but the education has began yesterday. Our very own Alex Gorbachev discussed HA all day in prep for a full week of education sessions. Yury has traveled all the way from Australia and we’re glad he did. COLLABORATE often fights with one of my other passions – NHL playoff hockey. Quick blog post from Collaborate 2012 in Vegas. I’m only doing one session this year but it’s a very long session — I’ve just done a deel dive on deploying Oracle Database 11gR2 for High Availability. It’s a broad topic and my plan was to focus a lot on basic concepts and how they are working.
COLLABORATE is all about quality and content, presenters elaborating based on their specific areas(s) or expertise. The show may be elaborate, but “show” is secondary to education. A handful of tier 1 shows throughout the calendar year do just that … primary focus is on the user community, the people who live the software from day-to-day.
I made the epic journey with my Pythian (and former Nokia) colleague Andrew Moore, and once at the conference we met up with more members of our Pythian MySQL team; Marco Tusa, Raj Thukral, and Singer Wang. We all ran into former colleagues at the conference, caught up with old friends and made some new friends. The conference this year was buzzing with enthusiasm, learning, and creativity. I’m delighted to say it delivered everything I anticipated and more.
In about 4 hours, at 2PM PDT, I’ll be giving my talk “Security Around MySQL” at Ballroom A at the Percona Live MySQL Conference 2012. It’s a summary and guide of practical and easy-to-implement security tips around MySQL and the application. These tips were all gleamed from my years at start-ups (some which I worked at and some which I founded) and from experience at Pythian.
A very well attended Pedro’s dinner – I didn’t count, but we had 9 tables of 8-10 people or so – dare I say almost a 100 people? Lots of beer, margaritas and good conversations! Here are a few pictures from the event
It’s that time of the year again…. Collaborate time: the world’s only user-driven, user-run Oracle conference. From April 22 to 26th, thousands of Oracle professionals are heading to Las Vegas for a week’s worth of presentations, education sessions, networking opportunities and who knows what else (it’s Vegas, after all!). Here is what we have planned for Collaborate 12:
Thanks to everyone who attended my presentation “Queues, Pools and Caches” at Hotsos 2012. I had a blast and I hope you did too. I posted the slides and paper on SlideShare for your enjoyment.
