Thanks Tony and Barbara for the Opportunity to Present for AUSOUG Victoria members!

I was in Melbourne presenting two of my papers for Australian Oracle User Group Victorian members. I received a very warm welcome in that beautiful city. it was my pleasure to meet several Oracle DBAs and present for AUSOUG members. 25 people took part in the meeting! I should say that it was one of the best audiences I have presented for over the last few months! I received several good questions and we have a very good follow up discussion.

A NoCOUG to Remember

When I found out that NoCOUG had accepted my abstract, “Oracle 11g: Learning to Love the ADR”, I was both ecstatic and terrified. This meant that I actually had to prepare the presentation and speak in front of peers. Surely they would throw me into San Francisco Bay if I didn’t bring my A-game, so I set out to do just that.

On Disaster Recovery and my SQL Rally 2011 Presentation

I was reading my session evaluation results and came accross comment that said: “copy and paste coder.” I’ve been doing this specific presentation for almost 5 years now with a few tweaks every once in a while based on feedback. Yes, I live and breathe disaster recovery as part of my day-to-day job. However, there are several reasons why I do not type nor write code during my presentations. Here are a few of them.

5 Days Left – Vote for Pythian Sessions at Oracle OpenWorld 2011 on Oracle Mix

Summer’s here, and that means it’s time to start thinking about Oracle OpenWorld 2011. Pythian’s plans are well underway. We have been busily planning since March, have submitted a number of abstracts on all sorts of topics: Exadata, ASM, GoldenGate, ADR, ASM, many based on real world experiences with Pythian clients. Some have been accepted, but we’re hoping for a few more and we’re asking Pythian fans to vote for our sessions on Oracle Mix.

Exadata SIG, London April 18th

My presentation was on an Oracle Exadata implementation that we carried out and that I support on an ongoing basis. The presentation went well and everyone seemed to enjoy it, there were plenty of questions afterwards. We even managed to start a room discussion on columnar compression. The last presentation of the day was from Stewart Bryson on Agile DW with Exadata and OBIEE. All in all, an excellent day which was well run by UKOUG.
