Another interesting day today, I was attending the keynotes and I have found them quite interesting. Specially the way Tweeter use MySQL to build-up a nosql solution, jokes a side I take few notes on things I must analyze and dig in. Interesting one was also the introduction of the Paypal models, which brings me to attend the presentation later on. Presentation was well constructed and with some good theoretical work, but I was quite disappointed, I found the presentation incomplete, and missing real numbers for the MySQL Cluster NDB setup.
I attend five sessions today and I think some of them were very interesting. Like the one on the Optimizer insight, quite informative and accurate.
The other one done by the MySQL Cluster (NDB) group on the installer and new Javascript API interface, left me a little bit … foggy. Why? Because in my mind one of the most important thing to accomplish in NDB is the correct dimensioning of the memory, buffers, possible operation, attributes and so on, all things that should come from the review of the schema definition review and from the application analysis.
I can only comment so much on technology announcements. However, as the maestro Pythian’s team of 18 at the show this year, I can comment on how to get the most out of your OOW participation & experience.
It is exciting to be here, meeting again old friends and ex colleagues, but also exciting for what seems the start of a very significant conference fro MySQL. I really enjoy the introductions done from Edward Screven and Thomas Ulin. Edward highlight the fact that MySQL is increasing his presence in the market and in the community. This could be also thanks to the unbelievable effort done by Oracle in keeping his production cycle on target.
No time to read Walter Isaacson biography of Steve Jobs? After reading and deeply thinking about it. I was convinced that there were great insights applicable to everyone’s business. So I decided to Power Point them for you. Please share so that we may all build the Next Apple money Tree!
I know Oracle Open World from the blogs, twitter, and YoutTube clips of the sessions and all the fun going on. Now as I look forward to attend my first ever Open World, and present there, I cannot wait. I believe that its not only a great technical mela (i.e festival), but also a stellar opportunity for the networking.

Pythian was at Insync12 in Melbourne and your’s truly presented two sessions on Exadata, one dealt with the overview of the machine while answering the justification of the beast, and the other tried to demystify the working of DBRM with the IORM within Exadata. It was a great two days of technical fun was packed with nifty tricks, cool tips, strengthening of knowledge and sharing of it in an exquisite way.
This Australian conference represents the climax of Technology, Development and Applications users in one go. As icing on the cake, mobile technology and telecommunication will also feature during this scintillating saga of expertise and sharing of knowledge. Where there is mentionable database talk, there is Pythian. I will be presenting two sessions at the Insync12 this year, both about Exadata, a technology closer to my heart.
HOPE Volleyball Summerfest (Helping Other People Everywhere, Ottawa-Carleton Inc) celebrated 30 years of fun for a cause this year. The charity has donated more than $3.5 million to over 110 charities since it began. Here are a few highlights from Team Pythian, at HOPE on July 14th. It was a great day!
