Meet the First Oracle ACE Director in MySQL — Sheeri Cabral

I’m excited to share the news that Oracle ACE program has been extended to cover MySQL community now and Pythian’s Sheeri Cabral has become the very first Oracle ACE Director in MySQL expertize area. It’s a special privilege for me to blog about it because I had a pleasure to nominate Sheeri in the first place. Being an Oracle ACE Director myself and knowing what’s involved, I believed that if Oracle ACE program is extended to MySQL, Sheeri must be the number one candidate.

Achievements of Women in Technology

Today is Ada Lovelace day, a day to “draw attention to achievements of women in technology.” So here I am, drawing some attention :) All the names contain links to learn more (mostly Wikipedia links), so if you are so inclined to do so, you can learn more (you could start at Wikipedia’s article on women in computing). Perhaps you will realize that there are lots of women in technology already, more than you first thought. That being said, this is by no means a comprehensive list.

dpanneur – your friendly DarkPAN/CPAN proxy corner store

There were two things I have wanted to do for some time now. The first was to come up with a way to quickly and easily set up a DarkPAN mirror so that we would have more control over our dependency chain at work. The second was to make a portable CPAN proxy service, so that I can always have access to my favorite modules, even if the machine I’m working on has no Internet access. Last week, I finally had a few ‘rount tuits’ to spend on this type of background itch, and the result is dpanneur (for dépanneur, French Canadian for convenience store). Here it is.
