Webinar: Applying the supply management promise to IT

Courtesy of our friends at Oracle cost containment company Miro Consulting, I am giving a webinar tomorrow at 1pm EST (click this link for the time in other timezones please. The subject I’ve chosen is how to apply the best practices around advanced supply management that are extremely successful and mature in the product supply chain world to the equally extremely immature practices we typically find in enterprise IT supply provisioning. It should be a great presentation; I give an overview of the famous “Toyota Way” and cover some recent findings from the California Management Review as well. Keep reading for a full overview.

Off to Hotsos Symposium 2008

Last year’s Hotsos Symposium was the first for me. These were exciting few days and I fully enjoyed the conference. I’m very pleased that this year I’m going to Dallas again but this time in the new role — I’m doing a presentation on Workload Management in Oracle RAC. I don’t need to tell you what Hotsos Symposium is about — if you are on this blog, you should know it already. 3 days of high quality presentations and endless networking opportunities where you can share your ideas or concerns and get your questions answered. Keep watching for updates.

RMOUG 2008 is Over

The time is flying here and two days of RMOUG Training Days 2008 have gone. In a nutshell, what a great conference! Well done RMOUG and special thanks to Peggy King! It was very nice to see a bunch of old friends and meet new ones in person including Jeremiah Wilton and Tim Gorman. The highlight of the day was controversial presentation by Moans No Balls Longgood about the current state of database performance tuning. For a full rundown of the last day keep reading.

RMOUG Second Day

Today was a mini-Pythian day at RMOUG. Both Alex and myself gave two presentations each. My first session was on using LDAP with Oracle Applications. George Trujillo was presenting on MySQL for the Oracle DBA in the same room, so I stayed and learned a few things. I was lucky enough ( a little tongue in check there!!) to present the last session of the day on Oracle 11g DataPump.

First Day at RMOUG

I had a great time at RMOUG today. I attended a lot of great sessions, even though I was a little late getting there this morning. I particularly enjoyed Daniel Liu’s 11g New Features for DBAs presentation. Read my post for more highlights.

RMOUG Training Days 2008 Starting

‘m in Denver now and it’s RMOUG Training Days time! The University Sessions were running yesterday and the conference itself starts today. I have heard a lot of good things about RMOUG and the conference is considered one of the best Oracle events in North America. I will be able to confirm it during the next two days but I have no doubt that it’s true. Keep an eye out for my RMOUG updates.

From Down Under to Denver (RMOUG)

It is hard to believe that I leave here tomorrow to fly to Denver for RMOUG. I have been very fortunate to get selected give two presentations, one on Data Pump and the other on Oracle Application Server and LDAP. I am really looking forward to catching up with “my mates” in the Oracle community. I will send regular updates when I get to RMOUG.

“Virtual UKOUG Event”

This message is for our readers mostly located in UK and Europe but keep reading even if you are far away geographically – nothing is impossible in our digital age and you might actually consider traveling there in case of desperate interest. Your feedback would be useful, either way. What I want to draw your attention to is that Jonathan Lewis has posted a call for attendees for a special event dedicated to virtualization technologies with Oracle. This event is considered by UKOUG and whether it happens or not depends on you.
