I am finally able to announce when and where the Pythian BoF session has been scheduled! It will be in the Alameda room, 7:30-8:30pm on Tuesday, April 15th. The session, titled “Ask the Pythian Maestro”, will be attended by myself and our two MySQL team leads, Sheeri K. Cabral and Augusto Bott.
My name is Vasu Balla, and I’ve been with Pythian for about four months now. I have worked on Oracle E-Business Suite instances for over five years, and I’ve never had a moment where I felt bored. I am constantly challenged with new technologies and new issues, and my Pythian team’s clients continue to present interesting issues. Our team recently encountered an issue a client had had with Oracle Configurator for two years. They had followed up with Oracle Tech Support for over a year and had eventually learned just to live with the problem. When Pythian came in, we were shocked to learn the history of the problem. It turned out to be one of the most exciting problems we’ve resolved.
If you are a regular reader of this blog, you know that I was at the Hotsos Symposium 2008 this year. You might not know that I also had a chance to take few days off and spend 1+ week vacation in Texas after the symposium — enjoyed the sun and warm weather. My family liked that even more than I did. Unfortunately, when I was back home last weekend, I discovered pretty unpleasant view from my windows…
As of this month, Adam Machanic has been hired to lead Pythian’s global SQL Server practice and will be working out of our office in Central Square in Boston, Massachussets. Adam is in my opinion as close as it comes to a resource in the Microsoft SQL Server space that has the personality, track record and respect that Tom Kyte has in the Oracle space.
I have been a MySQL DBA at The Pythian Group for three months (and 2 days) now. At most companies that is the probationary period, and I am still here, so that is a good sign….. So, after three months, how do I like it? Glad you asked!
As you may or may not know, I have been spending time in the Pythian Office in Sydney, Australia. In this post I share my experiences of what it is like to be from Ottawa, Canada but live and work in Australia (for at least a few weeks).
As I mentioned earlier, the Pythian Dubai office is now open. I mentioned it only took me 5 days to find an apartment here, so I would like to share my experience with you.
After landing, and a 5 day fiesta of arranging my long term apartment here, Pythian Dubai is now fully operational with me being the first employee here.
It is indeed a different world here. I have a feeling I’ll like it even more over the next three months I am here on Pythian duties. I will be writing more, so stay tuned.
I was blog-tagged by Doug Burns – in his post, I *hate* chain letters ….I hate them too, I literally never pass them on no matter what vile fate that condemns me to. But this one includes a chance to talk about myself without seeming too self-involved, and there wasn’t even a threat of eternal damnation if I don’t do it. So let’s proceed then! 8 things about me that aren’t common knowledge…
