Pythian’s Oracle ACE, Fahd Mirza appears in this month’s Community: Peer-to-Peer review “In With the New”, as published in the September/October 2011 issue of Oracle Magazine. Fahd states that “Oracle Exadata Database Machine” has most changed his life – changing the game, and setting very high standards of performance, support, scalability, reliability and unification. Shout out to Fahd from your peers at Pythian!

Just a few days ago I received a reminder email from Burke Scheld for the “AUSOUG National Conference Series – Perth 2011 – Call for Papers”. I had an event-related conversation with several Oracle guys in my professional networks and the answers I received triggered this blog post. Some of the very good Oracle professionals I personally respect said “…I am not sure what I would get out of it …” or “…I haven’t done anything exciting for the last FEW MONTHS …”. The answers I received shocked me a bit.
I’m following up on a conference almost half a year later — try to bet that! Actually, this blog post was written more than 3 months ago and was sitting in my drafts waiting the moment I understand why I really wrote it. 3 months later… I still don’t know but I thought I should share it anyway. Maybe I could at least get some comments…
There has been quite a bit written about Oracle Mix Voting (let me refer to it as OMV for short) this year and I don’t think I should waste your time restating any of this. What I wanted to do is to take a step back and try to list “stakeholders” of OMV.
This is a short blog post to let you know that there is a Oracle 11GR2 Clustering Webinar is coming this week. This session is going to be presented more in-depth at Oracle OpenWorld this year. Thank to all your votes at Oracle MIX. This webinar is kind of a bit of a pre-Oracle OpenWorld warm up :)
As the new maintainer of DBD::Oracle, I’m trying to wrap my head around the 32 tickets currently open against it. Many tickets are platform-dependent, or appear for a specific version of Oracle. It would be fantastic to be able to tag the different tickets with those details, but alas CPAN’s RT doesn’t have tags..Fortunately, with the help of RT::Client::REST and Net::GitHub, it’s quite easy to export our tickets.
Tom Kyte, Cary Millsap, Steven Feuerstein hold a Database Guru Panel at #Kscope 11′s conference organized by ODTUG. I had a great opportunity to not just watch the Live Stream (you can see the recorded version HERE) but also ASK questions..One of the questions was related to UNDO/REDO statistics. I think that it was a bit of challenge to define the question precisely having just 140 Twitter characters and therefore I decided to share my question here, give a bit of background and ask you “What is your opinion?”
Oracle Fusion Applications 11G is now available! You can get the installation from the Oracle E-Delivery site in no time. This is the moment many of us have been waiting for, if not for many years then for many months for sure. Keeping in mind the amount of effort Oracle have invested in the product and the fact that the product is going to be a flagship ERP system on the market for at least next 10 years the most important thing is to get an access to the documentation. For me to understand the concepts and fundamental principals of the product is much more important than getting it installed ASAP. Let’s get into it.
