actually, standard Oracle documentation became pretty good on outlining basics behind scalable systems.

it is a very short page and I really liked some of those statements:

"However, any performance increases achieved by adding hardware should be considered a short-term relief to an immediate problem."

"Poorly designed systems perform poorly no matter how much extra hardware is allocated." (especially that)

"The application has the biggest impact on scalability."
