Oracle 11g (11.1.0.6) and Documentation Available on OTN

By: Alex Gorbachev

Thanks to Jeremy Schneider for quick info that Oracle 11g is available for download on OTN.

Unfortunately, Oracle Corp. thinks that product release can go first and the documentation can follow later - there is no 11g documentation available on OTN if you want to check. Unfortunately, many people still thinks that documentation is optional and turn to it only when everything else doesn’t work. From 11g beta times I could mention that documentation was really lagging and that’s rather unfortunate.

My only hope that this is a matter of days if not hours to see documentation for 11.1.0.6 on OTN.

Update: Documentation is actually there. It’s not linked properly from OTN. As usual, re-formated front page.

  1. Alex,

It confused me as well, there appears at first glance to be only one download, and that’s the database software. Howevere there is a ’see all’ link which changes the download page so that you can also get the docs, the client only install, the companion CD, now renamed examples and so on.

I think it’s a good change, but it fooled me for a bit.

    cheers

    Niall

  2. Niall,

Thanks for comment. What confused me is that in OTN top-bar menu I select database documentation and it refers to 10g still but 11g link is available in main documentation page.

    Cheers,
    Alex

More haste, less speed, young man!

    ROFL ;-)
