Oracle 11g for Linux 64-bit now available

It looks like the second public platform release for Oracle 11g is (surprise, surprise) Linux x86-64. Downloads are available on OTN.
As with previous Linux releases, 32-bit Oracle with a 32-bit OS and 64-bit Oracle with a 64-bit OS are supported, but 32-bit Oracle with a 64-bit OS is not.
Note also that sqlplus does not play well with SELinux under RHEL5; workarounds are to disable SELinux entirely, or to manually change the context of Oracle libraries to textrel_shlib_t. More details are in MetaLink note 454196.1 (login credentials required).

YES! Finally.
Now if only the installer stopped screwing around with linking 32-bit binaries, than it would run on real 64-bits Linux distro’s instead of RHEL and OEL, that have the complete 32-bit library-set installed as well. What a fake.
The core is 64 bit and some “utilities” are 32 bit but agree – it’s unfortunate that Oracle couldn’t be bothered to port them as well.
On the other hand, we are probable better off to go through the pain of installing and linking it once rather than taking a chance of hitting port bugs while running it.
Anyway, I hope Oracle will move the primary development platform to 64 bit rather sooner than later.
