I ran into the same conclusion after adding/removing a node to a cluster and then adding it to a 2nd different cluster. It confirms what I seen. And inded, editing rootconfig script with relevant information does the trick! Thanks! That procedure doesn't work with some release (at least it doesn't with 11.1.0.7) because the paramfile.crs is now used instead of the variables at the beginning of the rootconfig script. You'll have to change them in that file. Interesting!
