This paper details how we responded to several challenges in an upgrade that contained complex peculiarities, while still delivering significant time savings for our client. We purged non-required data, dealt with Apache lock-file issues, fixed post-patch login problems, restored systems that had crashed, and resolved other issues.

The set-up challenges were numerous. We successfully configured SSL for the Apps R12 configuration using internally generated chained certificates. We implemented a load balancer (Cisco Content Switch). We found a configuration solution for Apps integration with NAM3. Lastly, a reverse proxy setup was required. Our production upgrade plan was successful, and the entire process came in at 48 hours–24 hours shorter than estimated.
