He’s played a key role in taking the company global, having set up Pythian’s Asia Pacific operations. Today, the CTO office is an incubator of new services and technologies – a mini-startup inside Pythian. Most recently, Alex built a Big Data Engineering services team and established a Data Science practice. Highly sought after for his deep expertise and interest in emerging trends, Alex routinely speaks at industry events.
An ambitious risk taker both personally and professionally, Aaron has co-founded several companies and currently leads Pythian’s DevOps team. Aaron’s clients and colleagues can rely on him to find the opportunity in what seems like adversity and rally teams to make the necessary changes to realize these opportunities. In his spare time, Aaron is an avid motorcyclist who began building and racing motorcycles at the age of 10.
Laine is currently the co-founder and associate vice president of Pythian’s Open Source Database practice. She is a database expert with extensive knowledge of how to grow and sustain data systems for highly available web applications. She is an advocate for simple, scalable infrastructures, the culture of DevOps, and open source solutions wherever possible. Prior to founding Blackbird.io, Laine spent her career in various corporate environments, including working at Travelocity for nearly a decade building their database team. She went on to support companies, such as Obama for America and Activision/Call of Duty. Laine is passionate about supporting underserved populations, such as women, people of color, and LGBTQ individuals, to help them gain experience, skills, and jobs in technology.
Chris Presley loves order—making him a premier Microsoft SQL Server expert. Not only has he programmed and administered SQL Server, but he has also shared his expertise and passion with budding DBAs as SQL Server instructor at Conestoga College in Kitchener, Ontario. Drawing on his strong disaster-recovery skills, he monitors production environments to swiftly detect and resolve problems before they arise. A self-described adrenaline junkie, Chris likes tackling the biggest database problems and putting out the toughest fires—and hitting the road on his motorcycle.
Dennis is a highly motivated and versatile engineer, who is passionate about discovering new technologies and solutions, and applying them to his work. Dennis fosters a fun, yet focused work environment and is committed to learning and growing. He places a high value on taking responsibility, even when things don’t go according to plan. Dennis was a jazz guitarist in a past life and can be found reading or hiking when he isn’t working.
Marc is a passionate and creative problem solver, drawing on deep understanding of the full enterprise application stack to identify the root cause of problems and to deploy sustainable solutions. He has extensive experience with Oracle's engineered system portfolio, including leading one of the first enterprise Oracle Exadata implementations. Marc has a strong background in performance tuning and high availability, developing many of the tools and processes used to monitor and manage critical production databases at Pythian.
An Oracle ACE with a deep understanding of databases, application memory, and input/output interactions, Christo is an expert at optimizing the performance of the most complex infrastructures. Methodical and efficiency-oriented, he equates the role of an ATCG Principal Consultant in many ways to that of a data analyst: both require a rigorous sifting-through of information to identify solutions to often large and complex problems. A dynamic speaker, Christo has delivered presentations at the IOUG, the UKOUG, the Rocky Mountain Oracle Users Group, Oracle Open World, and other industry conferences.
For Edwin, the job of being an ATCG principal consultant is as much about understanding human dynamics as it is about technical expertise. Over the years he’s honed his skills in both respects: developing his own methods for bringing the personal and technical dimensions of an organization together, and earning the prestigious designation of Microsoft Most Valued Professional. (He’s known around Pythian as “Mr. Microsoft”.) Among his recent major projects is a massive SharePoint upgrade for Western Union. Edwin speaks often at industry gatherings such as the Singapore Windows Server User Group, Microsoft Tech-Ed Asia and the PASS Community Summit. He’s also contributed to the SQL Server MVP Deep Dives book series.
Simon describes himself as a technology enthusiast who is passionate about collecting and sharing interesting database tips. If you want to see his eyes light up, let him teach you something new. Based out of Calgary, Alberta, Simon is known for his contributions to various online Oracle communities, and being very thorough in his work. A self-proclaimed stereotypical Canadian, Simon can be found watching hockey with his family in his spare time.
Richard Weiss, based out of Charlotte, North Carolina is the newest addition to Pythian’s Advanced Technology Consulting Group. With more than 20 years’ experience, he has an unmatched ability to solve problems—Richard loves using technology to implement transformational, game changing solutions to help businesses reach their goals. He is a huge Green Bay Packers fan who can be found watching football in his dedicated memorabilia room and spending time with his daughter.
Vasu Balla’s colleagues call him “Eagle Eye” for a reason – his diverse technical background enables him to view his clients’ systems from a 360-degree angle, giving him a higher level of understanding. Vasu is well known for being approachable, and he truly enjoys helping people. Even former colleagues reach out to Vasu when they are really stuck on an issue. When he isn’t working, Vasu can be found in the kitchen trying new recipes.
Known in the industry for his performance tuning work with the highly anticipated release of an action-adventure video game in 2013, Warner has been recognized by his colleagues for his ability to remain calm and collected under pressure. His transparency and candor enable him to develop meaningful relationships with his clients, where he welcomes the opportunity to be challenged. Originally from Costa Rica, Warner is fluent in English and Spanish and, when he isn’t working, can be found watching movies, playing video games, and hosting board game nights at Pythian.

Bill Fraser is passionate about creating and managing automation because it allows him to focus on the bigger picture for his clients. Known for being a driven and approachable team player, Bill is confident that he can solve any problem related to enterprise infrastructure, and welcomes the challenge. He enjoys working with the leading-edge technology, particularly in the cloud and virtualization space. To have that expertise, and be the one that companies come to – It’s a real win. When he’s not working, Bill can be found playing video games and spending time with family.
With greater than 25 years of IT experience, Michelle has worked exclusively with SQL Server for the past 15+ years. She has designed methodologies that consist of documentation, utilities, and scripts to automate architecture, design, and performance tuning initiatives for her clients. Michelle is able to see the wider vision of her clients’ business. She is passionate about solving problems quickly and providing value to her clients. She speaks English, Hebrew, Spanish, and a bit of French.
Prashant Kumar describes his work style as very structured, which enables him to react calmly in high pressure situations. He believes that processes and documentation are critical to fostering effective communication, mitigating risks, and troubleshooting. Prashant’s colleagues can rely on him to troubleshoot any SQL Server related issue, where he can leverage his past life at Microsoft. Recognized for his numerous presentations at Oracle conferences like RMOUG, Hotsos, IOUG and more, Jared Still is well-known within the Oracle community. His colleagues and peers describe him as meticulous, as he values the importance of detailed, organized documentation in order to provide full transparency and clarity to his clients. Jared’s dedication to identify the root causes of issues strengthens his ability to troubleshoot intractable problems. When he isn’t relishing in low-level, in-depth technical projects, Jared can be found auto racing, which has been a passion of his for many years.

Inspired by his father, Murilo has been passionate about IT since he was a child. When he broke their first PC at the age of 10, he was able to fix it on his own without his father finding out. Based out of Montevideo, Uruguay, Nelson enjoys a beautiful ocean view working from home as an Oracle Database Consultant. In addition to being the Founder and President of the Uruguayan Oracle User Group (UYOUG), Nelson has contributed to the community by frequently speaking at industry events, and working as an Instructor at Oracle University. Deiby Gomez is rumored to be the youngest person in the world designated as an Oracle ACE, and the first in his country Guatemala at the age of 23. A tenacious and competitive individual, he regularly sets professional goals for himself and uses them to stay motivated. Deiby’s current and former colleagues can always depend on him to help resolve issues quickly—which he credits to his endless studying. When he isn’t working he can be found traveling or playing chess.
An avid Star Wars fan, Laerte describes himself as a funny guy who is a child at heart. He is well-liked in the community for his positive attitude, candor, and willingness to help. He discovered his passion for technology when he was just ten years old and began teaching at 14. While his peers weren’t sure what they wanted to do after graduating high school, Laerte always knew he wanted to pursue a career in technology. The first ever Oracle ACE in his former country, Pakistan, Fahd is a prolific blogger on both his personal website, and Pythian’s blog. He has contributed to the Oracle community by speaking at conferences like Oracle Open World, Collaborate, Insync, and many more across the globe. Fahd’s work is rewarding to him because he truly enjoys providing assurance to his clients, so that they can maintain a work-life balance. Based out of Brazil, Luan Moreno credits his ability to solve problems to thinking critically before acting. He values working with a team because he and his clients can benefit from various perspectives and collaboration, particularly when faced with difficult issues. When Luan first became interested in technology, he didn’t have a mentor, so he made a commitment to teaching others in the community and sharing his knowledge through blogging, speaking engagements, and more.
